THE OPENING DAY
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ■CHKISICHURCa. Last Night. The Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association's 1910 Metropolitan Show was successfully launched on its career to-day. Everything points to the show being an unqualified success, and the weather is fine. The grounds are in very fair Condition, though parched, and the entries are considerably in excess of those of the previous year. The work done to-day was very largely in preparation for the display of to-morrow and Friday. Stock and cattle were not all on the ground today, hut there were several representative classes on view. Much interests being manifested in the x sheep classes, and some keen competition is expected. Cattle also show an increase. Entries for the farmers' judging competitions have •declined. In horses there are substantial increases, and the total for this year works out at 2154, against 1991 last year. Judging today was confined to implements and machinery K by New Zealand manufacturers, 'and carriages. Ihere was N not a very large attendance of the public, but there never is a rush of patrons on the first day.
