PAHIATUA.

The local bowling green is in beautiful condition, and was" never seen to better advantage. Yesterday afternoon a good game was witnessed between Messrs J. Hughes, 0. Johnson, and Rev. W. H. Speer (skip), and Messrs J. Bissett, Wliyte-Scott, and J. A. Walsh (skip). The latter team, although their opponents scored seven in the second head, won easily at the finish,, the final scores being 21—12. A feature of the game was the remarkably good play of the two "colts," Messrs Bissett and Whyte-Scott, who only made their debut this season, and who give promise of developing into veritable top-notchers. The secretary of the local bowlingclub, Mr J. Hughes, has sent a challenge to the holders of the Wishart "Feathers," a Palmerston North team, on behalf of the following quartette:—Messrs Hawkins, Speer, Lilly and Walsh. The game will probably take place at Palmerston North on AVednesday next. A large number of Woodville bowlers are meeting hero 'to-morrow, for the formal opening of the season. Mr T. P. Pedersen, who has been hotel-keeping in this district • for quite a number of years, first at Aohanga and latterly at Makuri, has purchased the' Empire Hotel, Feildiug. Mr Pedersen bears an excellent reputation as a hotelkeeper, and his many friends wisli him success in his new venture.

The question of extending the water and drainage to the Pahiatua District High School was again discussed at last night's meeting of the Borough Council, but nothing definite was done in the matter.

The following have been electee! members of the Pahiatua-Akitio Agricultural and Pastoral Association :—Messrs T. Frere, J. Aitchi ■ sore, and T. Ruskell. At, the Magistrate's Court this morning, before Mr D. Crewe, J.P., at elderly man charged with insobiietv was convicted and discharged. ' Nice warm rains, which should piove very beneficial to fanners, are falling at time of writing, and as a result thereof the smiles of. farmer?. in these parts are extended.
