Mrs Turton, wife of Mr Tin-ton,, formerly Stipendiary Magistrate, is at present on a visit to Masterton.

Mr Harry Finney, one of the proprietors of the Nelson Colonist, is at present on a visit to Masterton:

The funeral of the late Mrs P. Carr, of Masterton, takes place at 2 o'clock to-morrow afternoon.

Captain R. Seddon, of the Defence Department, was a visitor to '.Masterton yesterday.

A Sydney telegram says that Mr Hugh Ward is retiring from the stage and entering into partnership with the firm of J. C. Williamson-.

Mr William Grant, the well-known sheepbreeder' of South Canterbury, died suddenly in bed from heart disease on Saturday morning.

Mr James King, an erstwhile resident of Masterton, who is assistant manager of the Massey-Harris Company, Ltd., Christchurch, is at present on a visit to this town.

The Rev. H. Watson, of Masterton, leaves for the South this week, to assist in the mission which is being held at Port Chalmers.

His Lordship Bishop Wallis will hold a confirmation service in St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, this evening. There are a large number of candidates for the sacred rites.

Mr L. J. Hooper, of Mastorton. has received advice that his son, J!r L. Hooper, has received aii appointment as Professor in the Doctors' and Physicians' Institute, San Francisco.
