OPENING A UNIVERSITY.

Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock. CAPETOWN, November 5. His Majesty the King has cabled as follows to the Duke of Connaught:— "I am much gratified by your "telegram, and am rejoiced to "hear that you opened the first "Parliament under such happy "auspices, and with assurances "of the good-will of my people "in South Africa.—GEOßGE, "K. 1." The Duke of Connaught laid the foundation stone of University Hall this morning. 'lhe Council presented an address to the Duke, who said that the King, as Chancellor, would always take the keenest interest in the University's welfare. He, the Duke, hoped the necessary funds would be forthcoming to convert the University into a teaching residential University.
