PERSONAL.
An old and respected resident of Hastings in the person of Mrs Francis Kirk, passed away on Sunday. The friends of Master Willie Coylett will regret to hear that he is confined to his bed with illness. Dr McArthur, S.M., who has been on an extended visit to the Old Country, returned to Wellington by the Arawa yesterday. Mr Pierce C. Freeth, formerly of Masterton, but lately of the N.Z. Times, has purchased the Hutt and Petone Chronicle. Captain Ferguson, R.N., who married Miss CJitiui Williams (Hawke's Bav) was a passenger by the Arawa from London. He has come out for the fishing.
Mr and Mrs J. S. ,Handysidc, of Akitio, arrived at Wellington by the Arawa yesterday. A London cable announces the death of Mr J. A. Acton, the sculptor, and Sir William Agnew, printer and publisher. Mr Henry Flockton, .).>., a very old resident of Wellington, died yesterday morning at the age of seven-ty-five years. ' Mr L. J. Hooper, of Masterton, ' who has been on an extended holiday to the Auckland Province, returned home by the late train last eveni ing. Si Mr L. Lyons, of the Martinbor- ' ough branch of the Bank of New j Zealand, has received word of his j transfer to Huntcrville. Mr Lyons 1 was very popular in Martinhorough where he' was a promoter and prominent member of the Martinhorough Hockey Club. The death is announced from Wellington of Mr C. E. Dowsett, a resident of fifty-throe years' standing in New Zealand, and a brother to Mr F. Dowsett, a well-known settler at Newman, Forty-Mile Bush. The funeral of the infant son of Mr and Mrs (-'. Street, of Langdale, took place on Sunday, and was largely attended. Many floral wreaths were placed on the grave. The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. -T. Phillips.
