Mr J C. Cooper, of Masterton, proceeds to Shannon to-day, to debate the land question with Mr G. Laurenson, M.P.

Colonel Tate and Major Charters, of the Greytown Rifles, attended the opening of the Masterton Rifles' newshooting range at Te Ore Ore on Saturday.

-- Mr Sam. Pearson is severing his connection with the Thompson-Payne picture proprietary, after being twelve months in Masterton. His successor, Mr H. Harrison, arrived on Saturday. ,

■ The Rev. Bain MacDanald leaves Masterton for Auckland to-morrow. He preached farewell sermons in Knox Church yesterday to large congregations. The Rev. J. Patterson will, supply the pulpit until the return of/the Rev. A. T. Thompson.

The Rev. H. Watson, whose transfer to Palmerston North was recently announced, stated in St. Matthew's yesterday that he had been re-nomi-nated for the parish of Masterton, and had accepted the nomination. He believed that he could do good work in Masterton by remaining, and had decided to do so. The announcement will give great satisfaction to a large section of the community.

The death occurred in Masterton on Saturday morning of Mrs Pearson, relict of the late Mr Henry Pearson, and a very old identity of this district. The deceased lady, who was a native of Donncloncy, County Down, came to New Zealand in the ship Goleonda in the sixties, and had resided in Masterton for over forty years. Her only son, Mr Samuel Pearson, is in business in Wellington, and her daughter, Mrs Barclay, resides at Waikniine. Tho late Mrs Pearson was of a very kindly disposition, and \v:is for years a prominent worker in flic Anglican Church in this town. Bov funeral takes place at 2.30 o'clock tin's afternoon.
