PERSONAL.

Mr David Crewe, of Pahiatua, will leave New Zealand early in December on a trip to the Old Country. Dr Frengley, of the Health' Department, Avas a visitor to Masterton yesterday. Revs. G. A. Crossman and C. F. Saunders (Anglican) are gazetted officiating ministers unuer toe Marriage Act. Mr A. J. Petherick, accountant, Wellington, has been appointed secretary of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. There were fifteen applications for the position.

The Rev. Dean McKenna will siv pervise the University examinations in Masterton next month, and Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, of Carterton, the •lection witli the Education DepartScholarship examinations in conment.

Among the passengers who returned by the Warrimoo from Sydney were Messrs Dan O'Brien, a one-time owner of Carbine, Richards, Town Clerk and City Engineer, of Dunedin, and J. H. Parker, of Christehurch, who witnessed the Arnst-Barry match on the Zambesi.

The funeral of the late Mrs James Russell took place yesterday afternoon, at the Masterton Cemetery. The cortege was a large one, aiid many beautiful wreaths, testifying to the respect and esteem in which the deceased lady was held, were laid ipon the grave. The service was conducted by the Rev. Bain MacDonald, and the pall-bearers were Messrs H. and E. Joyce, Waters, and W. Morris.
