WATER-POWER SCHEME.
LEVIN, Last Night
The Shannon, Levin, Foxton, and Palmerston North districts are .uniting in an endeavour to develop the electrical energy from Tokomaru and Mangaonohao rivers. The idea is to supply the motive power for the fmmerous flaxmills established in the localities named, and also to utilise the electricity for bleaching the flax. The New Zealand Flaxmillers' Association has tentatively approved of the scheme, as based on the favourable report drawn up in VS.OO6' by Mr Hays, of the Public Works Department. The estimated cost is from £15,000 to £20,000, and the scheme will give ten thousand horsepower. The Levin Borough Council discussed the scheme last night, and resolved to urge the Member for the District to approach the Government regarding the matter.
