STEAMERS COLLIDE.

LONDON, October 21. The Federal - Houlder - Shire Steamer Sussex, 5686 tons gross, has reached Los Pajmas, Canary Island, after a collision with the steamer Newstead, 2836 tons, belonging to the Shipping Syndicate, Ltd. .

The forepeak of the Sussex is leaking. The repairs will occupy six days. (The Sussex left England for' Sydney on the loth instant. She was timed to arrive at Wellington about the 16th December.)

LOSS OF A PORTUGUESE

STEAMER

TWO PERSONS DROWNED

CAPETOWN, October 24. . The Portuguese liner Lisbon, with 250 passengers aboard, was wrecked near Paternoster Point, on the west coast of Cane Colonv.

Two British passengers were drowned; the rest were saved. . (The Lisboa was a steel vessel of 7700 tons, built this year by Henderson and Co., Glasgow.)

A wireless call for aid was received from the tank steamer Oklahoma, but where she is is not known. Several steamers are now searching for her.

OTTAWA, October 25

The steamer Regulus,.. employed in the New York—Newfoundland coastal trade, broke her shaft in the Bay of Bulls. She was taken in tow, but the cable parted in a storm, and the Regulus was wrecked on a shoal in a Fog. , Nineteen of the crew were washed overboard and drowned.
