PERSONAL.
Among recent visitors to the Anglo-Japanese Exhibition at Shepherd's Bush, London, we're Miss K. F. Holloway and Messrs' F. Holloway and C. N. Clarke, of Masterton. -
At the meeting of the Wellington Education Board yesterday, : leave of absence was granted to Miss B. P. Stone, of the Pahiatua School, for a period of one month, as from September 28th.
Another of Masterton's pioneer settlers has passed away, in the'person of Mr Godfrey Russell, who died at his residence last night, at eight o'clock, from an attack of bronchitis, after four months' illness, at the age of 76 years. The late Mr Russell came out to New Zealand 52 years ago to join his brother, the late Mr James Russell. He finally settled in Masterton some 45 years back, where he carried on business as a contractor and builder. The late Mr Godfrey Russell was quiet and unobtrusive. He took no conspicuous part in public matters. He was, in the Rev. Mr Teakle's time, churchwarden of St. Matthew's, and for years was a member of the church choir and vestry. Mr Russell was born in the village of Becklev, Sussex, England. He leaves a widow and three grown-up sons to mourn their loss. The funeral takes place to-morrow afternoon.
