OPENING OF SEASON,

The Wairarapa Cricket Association opened its season at Mastert-on and Carterton on Saturday in fine but threatening weather. SENIOR. CARLTON v. MASTERTON. The senior match set down for decision 011 No. 1 wicket at the Park Oval was between the Carlton and Masterton elevens. Waugh, the new Carlton skipper, won the toss, and elected to bat, but his team was not -in its full strength, and a total of 92 was reached. Waugh 32, Baker 12, Aymes 11 not out, Phillips 11 and Ogier 10 reached double figures, while Jordan, Redmond, Congdon, and Iggulden took the wickets. Jordan and Redmond opened for Masterton, and the former is still unconquered with 55 to his credit, and the score at 128 for three wickets. Esson 49 not out the only other batsman to reach double figures. The score no doubt would have been considerably smaller if easy catches by both Jordan and Esson had been accepted.
