Dr. Rupert Hosking, who recently underwent an operation in Wellington for appendicitis, is making good progress towards recovei-y. A London cable, received yesterday, stated that King George and Queen Mary visited .Prince Francis of Teck. The Prince's breathing is less oppressed. Captain Falconer, late Inspector of Submarine Mining in New Zealand, is a passenger by the Orsova, which arrived at Perth yesterday. Mr. A. K. Hansen, of Waihoki Valley, returned to Eketahuna on Wednesday after a trip to the Old Country. Lieutenant Hyde, of the cruiser Shannon, lias been appointed to take charge of the Commonwealth destroyers. His appointment is for two years. A Sydney cable states that Mr. William Henry, secretary of the Life Saving Society, lias arrived in Australia. He is visiting-Australia and New Zealand to push forward the work oj, the Society.
Mr. Polamountain, a well-known tenor axxd mxisic teacher, committed suicide by shooting himself with a revolver at Messrs. Allen's music warehouse, in Melbourne. He had been suffering from nerve troxible.

Field-Marshal Lord Roberts unveiled a memorial to the late Sir William Curzon Wyllie in St. Paul's Cathedral, in the presence of Sir William's widow,- Lord Morley (Secretary of State for India), Lady Morley, and Lord Curzon (ex-Viceroy of India). Information was received in Eketahuna on Wednesday, says the Express, that Mr. T-. H. Murray, formerly of Eketaliuna, has been appointed fat stock buyer for the Bush District for the Wellington Farmers' Meat Freezing Company. Dr. Archer Hosking, who has been on an extended trip to Australia, returned to Masterton on Wednesdaynight. Colonel Godley, New Zealand's new commandant, has been gazetted Major-General by the Imperial Government in New Zealand. Mr D Ci'ewe, who has been in Wellington with regard to the Makuri power scheme, was to have addressed a public meeting at Pahiatua last night on the subject. The death occurred at Manga-" tainoka yesterday morning, of. Mrs John McCullough, relict of the late Mr J. McCullough, at'the ripe age of 82 years. Mr W. McCullough, engine driver, of Masterton, is a son of the deceased. Mr R. 0. Young, seed, grain, and produce merchant, Auckland, died on Saturday night. He was a brother of Dr. Young, a prominent medical practitioner at Invercargill, and also of the late Dr. Young, who for many years had charge of the Avondale Mental Hospital. Mr R. McNab was to have laid before the members of the Philosophical Society and their friends in, Palmerston North last evening the new discoveries made as a result of a research from original sources upon Te Rauparaha's raid on Akaroa and the race for possession of New Zealand between the French and English. The matter is to be incorporated in a new edition of Mr McNab's Muvihiku, and is of great interest. It is a privilege to have thus got a glimpse of them. Mr Walclegrave is to give the history of some valuable Maori weapon,which he has deposited with the Museum.
