MASTERTON STOCK SALE REPORT.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report at their Masterton sale yesterday:—Sheep embraced fat ewes, store ewes, and several pens of hoggets, every line selling under the hammer [at slightly advanced rates. In cattle, the yarding comprised upwards of 400 head, being chiefly young cattle, arid the class being good throughout, we had competition all through, the only lot passed during the day being a line of bullocks. Pigs were well represented, and all found purchasers under the hammer. In sheep, light fat ewes made 17s I'd; dry ewes, 10s to 10s 6d. A line of exceptionally good hoggets made the record price of 16s 9d; really good hoggets, 14a lOd; medium class, 12s. In Shorthorn yearlings a line of good quality, on account of Mr H. Hodge, made £3 12s 6d, falmerston North providing the purchaser at that figure. Mixed yearlings, on account of other vendors, in lots of 40 to 50, ranged from 53s to 58s; other classes, 35s to 40s; yearling heifers, 30s to 48s; 2-year steers, mixed class, £4 10s; 3 year steer?, J5 12s; store cows, 50s to 70s; empty heifers, 52s to 70s; cows and calves, 80s; fat cows, £5 ss; da ay cows, just calved, guaranteed, to £7 15s; backward sorts, £4 10s to £5; springing heifers, 70s to 85s; store pigs. 225; slips, 14s to 15s; weaners, 12s to 13s.
Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having held their usual fortnightly sale in the Waipoua yards yesterday, and are pleased to report a good attendance of buyers from all over the district, and also buyers from Woodville and Palmerston North. Competition was keen throughout, and we can report a total clearance. The entries of sheep comprised hoggets and ewes, and the entries of cattle were of all classes, which also met with a ready sale. We quote as follows : Hoggets, 15s. lOd. to 16s. 2d.; fat eives, ifls. 6d., £1 to 21s. Pigs: slips to 16s. 6d. Mixed yearlings, £2 16s. to £3 Is.; heifers in calf, £3 145., £4 45., £4 55., £4 13s. 6d., £5 155., to £6 Bs.; cows in milk (poor condition), £2 18s., £3, to £3 18s.; 2-year-old steers, £4 6s. to £4 13s. 6d.; 2-year-old empty heifers, to £3 lis.; fat heifers, £4 to £5 15s.
WOOL MARKET. Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following information by cable from their Adelaide branch, under date of 17th instant:— The wool sales were held here today ; 26,000 bales wore offered and 23,000 Ave re sold. The market is strong, and buyers are prepared to go on operating. Wools suitable for the Continent are rather lower, Avhile avools of other descriptions are unchanged. For crossbred avools of fine and medium quality, the demand is better.
PAHIATUA STOCK REPORT. Abraham and William?, Ltd., report on their Pahiatua sal.i of Tuesday, 18th instant, in the Farmers' Association's yards as folloAvs:— We submitted a good yarding of both sheep and cattle to a moderate attendance of farmers, and made a satisfactory clearance at late rates. Quotations. —Full-mouth eAves and lambs, 13s. oil. to 18s. 9d.; medium ewe hoggets, lis. 6d. to lis. 9d. to 13s. Id. ; wether hoggets, 10s. 3d. to 12s. 7d. ; mixed hoggets, Ds. lOd. to lis. 9d. ; good yearling steers, £3 10s. : mixed yearlings, 375. 6d. to £2 6s. ; fat cows, £» los. and £5 165.; empty coavs, £3 7s. to £3 9s. ■; coavs and calves, £2 6s. to £3 14s. ; springing heifers, £5 2s. 6d. to £6 10s.; empty heifers, £3 Bs. o £3 13s. 6d. ; young bulls, £1 los. to £o.
