THE OPENING DAY. (By Teles^-apn—I J ress Association.) HASTINGS, Last Night. TJie Hawke's Bay show Opened here to-day in perfect weather. The sheep classes are of exceptional quality, the best-known exhibitors in the Dominion being represented. Cattle arc above the usual standard, and the competition was very keen. Shorthorns are particularly good, and the margin between the placed animals is extremely small. Championship awards included : —Shropshire ram, P. Cooper ; Shropshire ewe with lamb, A. V. Collins; Southdown ram, Nelson Bros. ; Southdown ewe with lamb, Nelson Bros.; Lincoln rain, W. Perry; Lincoln ewe with lamb, Mrs. J. D. Ormond; Ronuiey ram, W. Perry; Border Leicester ram, Mrs. •T. D. Ormond; Border Leicester ewe, Mrs. Ormond ; English Leicester ram, Douglas M'Lean; English Leicester ewe, Douglas M'Lean ; Hereford bull, George Wheeler's Crown Prince; draught sire, three years and upwards, E. J. W. Harding's Baron Graceful; draught mare, Mrs. Ormond's; Berkshire boar, three years and upwards, Monckton and Fetch; Berkshire sow, J. H. Sellers.
