NGAURUHOE.
o THE LATEST ERUPTION. FIRE-BALLS HhOOT INTO THE AIR. I (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) i AUCKLAND, Last Night. Messages from Ohakune state that Ngauruhoe is still very active. The extent of the latest outbreak is variously reported. Eye-witnesses declare that on Monday evening, when the volcanic outburst was at its height, flames shot into the air from the crater and one or two fire-balls or masses of semi-molten rock were hurled skyward seveial houndred feet. Mr S. Crowther, who is thoroughly acquainted with the district, and also with the indiosynocrasie3 of Ngauruhoe, and is connected with the coaching business between Waiouru and Tokaanu, stated in a telegraphic message that the mountain on Monday night was smoke and steam to a height of over 1500 feet, while flames were shooting up to a height of aloat 50 feet. He stated, moreover, that he saw two fire-balls explode about 500 feet above the crater. The statonmaster at Waimarino also saw what he stated to be flames of light on Monday cTS'iing from the volcano, while from the accompanying rumblings and disturbances he was inclined to the opinion that a part of the crater lip had fallen in. One or two others corroborated the account of a fiery exhibition, but others, on the other hand, state that the activity was confined to the shooting skyward of dense masses of smoke and volcanic dust, which drifted slowly away before an easterly wind. ;
