MR. H. H. DONALD'S NEW RESIDENCE.
in Colo Street, Masterton, quite recently there has been built a residence which marks a new epoch in our local sphere of design for detached villa residences. In Mr. H. Donald's house we have a new style entirely, combining the modern wooden residence with all the detail of the Queen Anne. The treatment has been generally remarked on as being a great success. The house covers a large space, and is quite the most prominent building in the street. On entering by tiie front door one goes under the fine large porclr facing east ,and thence inv6 the hall, which is, generally speaking,, finished off with battened papered Avails and lead lights. The hall is spacious, with high ceiling, and on the left are the drawing and dining rooms, the former 25 feet long and the latter 22 feet long, both finished off in first-class style. Turning to the right at the end of the hall are four bedrooms, bathroom, shower;, cupboards, etc., and going through the swing doors leads to the kitchen, where everything has been fitted up in the most approved manner, with all the most modern conveniences. Mr. C. G. Monro was the architect, and the work throughout was entirely under his direct supervision, and it is not too much to say that.it is quite in keeping with the rest of the houses built by him in Mastctron. The building trusted to Mr. W. Lett, and all' praise is due to him for the success he has achieved. The joinery was supplied by Messrs. Coradine and Whittaker, and is a good sample of their work. Mr. B. E. Jones had charge of sanitary matters, and Mr. W. H. Cole was painter.
