MASTERTON BOWLING CLUB.
OPENING OF SEASON. Ideal weather prevailed on Thursday for the opening of the bowling season in Masterton. There was a .very large attendance of bowlers and friends, visitors being present from ,• all the, surrounding districts. The presence of a very large assemblage of the fair sex contributed to the pleasure of the function. Music was provided by Mr Reihana Boyes' orchestra, and afternoon tea was supplied'by the President (Mr J. Whittaker), with the assistance of the Mayoress (Mrs Coradine) and a bevy of ladies. The green was in splendid order, and some fine games were played between teams representing the President and Vice-Pre-sident, the latter's team winning by .133 points to 100. In declaring the green open for the season, Mr James Whittaker (President of the Club) thanked the ladies for their presence in such large numbers, and for the invaluable assistance they had always rendered the Club. He hoped that this assistance Avould be continued during the coming season. He was pleased to see so many strangers present, and trusted that many of them would become members of the Club. They were looking forward to a very successful year. He thanked those who had contributed trophies for competition, and the ladies for their assistance that day. Mrs J. M. Coradine .(Mayoress) then rolled up the "jack," amidst cheers, and the season was opened under the most favourable circumstances.
