REVOLUTION IN PORTUGAL.
The news conveyed by cable this morning concerning the position of affairs in Portugal is of a most disquieting character. As far back as August 25th the leave of officers and men on the warships was suspended, and the warships were ordered to leave for various destinations. These measures caused general surprise at the time. The elections to the Chamber of Deputies took place on August 28th, and on September Ist a cable stated that the Government had decided to revoke the laws subordinating the civil tribunals to the ecclesiastical. Very little- has been heard from Portugal since that date. The news of the Revolution and the bombardment of the King's Palace therefore comes as a great surprise.
