MASTERTON MUSICAL AND ELOCUTIONARY COMPETITION SOCIETY.
(To the Editor.) Sir,— Having noted, with some degree of pleasure, references in your columns to the formation of a competition society, I feel that it would be a thousand pities to let the matter drop. That such a society would be an educational benefit to Masterton goes without saying, and that now is an opportune time to form it seems to be generally agreed upon. This being so, I would suggest that a meeting of those interested be called without further delay. Such competitions might be conveniently arranged to take place on the same dates as the A. and P. Association hold their annual show, thus giving visiting competitors the advantage of seing the show, and all competitors the encouragement of increased audiences to hear their performances. To complete arrangements for these dates immediate steps -jvould need to be taken, that competitors in the prepared sections migM have reasonable time to prepare. For an educational society of this description, Masterton ought to be able to give prizes that would command competition from many parts of the Dominion, for to tiiis, I feel sure, the Trustees of the Trust Lands Trust would lend their support. But these are details which might be easily arranged at a meeting which, I trust, Sir, you will be able to arrange at no distant date.—l am, etc., D. B. THOMSON. Masterton, Sept. 2j 1910.
