A GRACEFUL TRIBUTE.
TO THE LATE MR PAYTON.
At the annual meeting yesterday of the Masterton Permanent Investment and Building Society, the chairman (Mr J. C. Bodclington) said he desired to refer to the great loss the Society had suffered by the death of the late Mr Joseph Payton, who was a Director for over twenty-nine years, during which time he had taken a very keen interest in the affairs of the Society. | Among the good qualities lie possessed was that of initiative, which, especially in the early days, was of great service, and he (Mr Boddington) need hardly say that his assistance was highly prized by his fellow-directors, who very sincerely regretted his loss. Personally, having been a worker with him on many and various Committees, he (the chairman) Li dno hesitation in saying that iie considered the death of Mr Payton a loss to the whole community. He would propose, "That the members of the Masterton Permanent Investment and Building Society place on record their appreciation of the valued services of the late Mr Joseph Payton as a director of twenty-eight years." The resolution was seconded , by Mr A. R. Bunny, and was carried in silence, the shareholders standi»g.
