MISSION OF HELP.

! The Mission of Hslp commenced | work on Saturday evening. October Ist. Th« Missioner, the Rev. H. K. W. Psrrer, together with the local clergy, Rev. H. Watson and Rev. W. Raine, accompanied by some fifty workers, held a large open-air service at the corner of Queen street and Church Etreet. Hymns were suLg and prayers offered, after which sbort addresses wer.2 delivered by the Vicar and the Missioner, explaining (he nature cf she Mission and inviting those present to avail themselves of the spiritual help provided by tne Mission. Some two to three hundred people gathered round the speakers and listened attentively io what was said, A move was then made to the Parish Church, where the reception service was held when the vicar solemnly and impressively welcomed the fitissiontr and publicly admitted him to the woik to which God has called him in the town. Having been admitted., Mr Farrer gave an earnest address on the r.ted of whole.htartec'ness and Hvtfughnees on the part of those helping in the Mission. On yurday ail the services drew crowded attendances. At the eigli o'ciocii celebration 133 Communicants were pieser.t, the Missioner taking tha service, assisted by the parish clergy. At the 11 o'clock service mornirg prayer and Holy Communion the Church was quite lull. 3he Missioner preached on the five points of the Mission—l, Confidence ic God as the author and source of life in the Mission, 2, prayer being the power by which the blessing of the Mission was obtained; 3, sincerity, tbe work ol the Mission beirg delkitw in its character in embracing God's message, trem Chr.st's words in the New Testament; 4, joy, in God making life bright with new-found happiness; 5, love, binding the Christian Church together as a living whole.

The service closed with another celebration of fhe Holy Communion when 61 Communicants were present.

§ At 2.30 a very bright children's service was held, the vicar speuking to the children, who filled the sacred edifice, from the words, "There is a friend for little children." At 8.30 130 men were uresent, and joined heartily in a service for men only, at which the Missioner gave an address on the subject of "XemptatioD," which was followed with 1 close interest. ,A 7 o'clock there was a mass meeting in the Town Hall, every available seat being filled. A large choir, some sixty strong, augmented by a string band, led the mission hymns, which were very heartily sung, the whole congregation joining in the volume of praise. The Missioner save two addresses. In the first, dealing with the spiriual needs o£ man's life, choosing as his subject, the Saviour's offer of "Living Water to Thirsty Souls." The Missioner spoke for over half-an-hour, during which there was an impressive stillness over the Hall. After the singing, "0, for a Heart to Praise My God," the Missioner ! then spoke for twenty minutes qn j" the necessity of being intellectually satisfied eo to the beliefs necessary to satisfy the soul. His arguments as to the reality of God, and Gfeaticn, His almightiness of all gcodntss, were clearly and forcibly drawn, and we feel sure that this definite teaching during each night will te deeply appreciated by the thoughtful people of the town. The Hall Wts to crowded that the people loak suae considerable time in leaving. The services for to-da; are:—7.SO a.m., Holy Communion; 10 a.ir. f I Morning Prayer and Intercession?; i 4.15 p.m., Children's Service; 7.45 p.m., Mission Service.
