The members of the sub-commit-tee, M-'Si>r.v E. Hrtwn and A. HendesoD, tppointed to make inquiries r sptctiag tie acquiring of several pieces of land for the purpose of a road to Chapel Street, Mastertor, repoitsd as follows to the meeting of the Council of the Master en i nmter -of Commerce yesterday: "We have obtained from t'.ic o7.ner the right of pur-, at the price of £3,670, sixtysix feet froßtaee to Queen Street by half the depth of the whole section, and commenefng from the boundary of - Messrs Ogiivy's premises;; also 33ftfrentage to \ Chapel Street (no buildings) at the price of £lO per footr~£33o; also Mr Hounslow's 33ft frontage'to Chapel Street by a depth of half the section with buildings thereon at the pi ice of £5502 Thus, the whole of the land and buidings thereon required for a road 66ft wide frcm Queen Street to Chapel Street will cost £4220. A portion of the land is under lease to Mr R. E. Jones, who will surrender th«j same if provision is made for other premises durine the reinstate* ment of his shop, and £25 for, disi organisation of business. This total ' should not exeed £SO. The total cost I of land and buildings, therefore, will be £4,270.

The Chairman stated that there was not the slightest douht but that if this street were put through it would be nf great advantage to the town. The next step would probably be to wait upon the Borough Council on the subject. Mr A. Henderson moved, "That this Chamber of Commerce respectfully requests that the Borough Council will consider the advisability of acquiring land fronting Queen and Chapel Streets for a street to further coni.ect Queen Street with an lmportI ant part of the Borough, &i, in the opinion of this Chamber, such a street is urgently required; that Messrs J. B. Moodie, A. Henderson, G. C. Summerell, and W. B. Chennells be appointed a deputation to wait upon the Borough Council at its next meetiing to furnish all data in connection with the proposal." Mr .1. Hunter seconded the resolution, which was carried unanimously.
