SOUTH WELLINGTON v. MASTER'i'ON.

Tin South Wellington Chess playera arrived in Masterton on Saturday evening, .After being entertained at tea by the local men at the Commercial and Farmers' Club, the visitors proceeded to the Cheis Club rooms at too Y.M.C.A., where play was commenced at a little after 9 p.m. The first game was completed at ]0 V .30, and three only were completed before an adjournment was made till this morning, when •play will re-cemmence at 9 sharp. I Two of the completed game 3 go to South Wellington. Betty and Hicks gaining wins from Hood and F. R. Kummer respectiveiy, while Logan,' Masterton wins from Petnenck. There is* little to choose between the balance, of the games, the City having, perhaps, a little the better poaitiou. The visitors were made honorary members of the Farmers' Club, a courtesy appreciated by those bo favoured. The teams will lurch together at; midday to-day, [ and it is hoped that two rounds will he completed before (he City men leave for home thin aiier'noon.
