0 The member for Masterton made a most extraordinary speech in the House of Representatives on TlnirsI day night in opposition to the Defence Bill. Incidentally he conI demned militarism as the work of 1 "scaremongers." He declared that he would record his vote against the Bill if he was the only man in the House to do so. The electors of this district cannot possibly endorse the protestations of their representative. Nine-tenths of them are agreed that an effective system of defence is absolutely essential, and they are ready and willing to contribute their quota towards the cost.
