LOWER VALLEY JOCKEY CLUB
SECOND DAY. Fine weather prevailed for the second day's racing at Martinborough, and" there was again a fair attendance. The general arrangements were well carried out, and everything went off smoothly. Eight bookmakers laid the odds, and the sum of £2099 went through the totalisivtor, worked by Mr Ames. Following were the results: —
HACK HURDLE HANDICAP, 50 sovs., one mile and a half. Miss McDougall's bg Sunray, syrs, 9.11, Lethe—Daybreak, (J. Hercock) 1 J. Cress' bg Gaelic, aged, 10.0

St. Amelia also ran. Sunray, attended bv St. Amelia, led past the stand. The first-named kept his place round the back, and into the straight. Gaelic here put in a forward 0 move, but Sunray held his position, and won by two lengths. Time, 2min. uGsec.
AORANGI -aOK, 45 sovs. 1 , 4 furlongs. C. 13. Pharazyn's cf Longstcp, 3vrs, 7.4, Stepniak—Good Intent (L. Traill) 1 W. H. Whitmore's bf Complexity, 4yrs, 7.4, (H. Kirk) 2 R. Clapham's Fighting Maid, 6 yrs, 7.8 (C. Emerson) 3
Leahora and Field Fare also ran. Longstep, the favourite, got a flying start, was never caught, and won by six lengths from Complexity. Time, 51 l-ssecs.
MARTIN MEMORIAL HANDICAP, lOOsovs., one mile.
•W. Davies' bh Llamvern, 6yrs, 6.7, Pilgrim's Progress— Leda (C. Emerson) 1" J. Adams' bg Merrie Zealand, 9.5 (W. Ayres) 2 H. Hodge's bh Mataari, aged, 6.13 (T. L. Catt) 3 Moloch, Sir Solo, and Killaloo also ran. Moloch was in front going out of the straight; but before the back stretch was reached Llamvern was in front. He led the field from I this out by about three lengths, and won very easily from Merrie Zealand. The latter, after half a mile had been traversed, was a dozen lengths to the bad. He put in a fine run from the two furlongs post, but failed to catch the leader. Time, lmin. 45sec. HACK AND HUNTERS' STEEPLECHASE, 45 sovs., 2 miles. F. McKenzie's bg Waiohika, j 11.5, Waiuku—Miss Agnes, j i (N. Newman) 1 H. W. Parata's bin St. Amelia, aged, 12.3 (J. Edwin) 2 M. Bennett's bh Royal Guard, 6yrs, 10.7 (H. Tate) 3
Flamingo, Sylvia Maid and Hepere made up the field. Flamingo was first to show out, but after the first obstacle, was cleared Waiohika took up the running, with St. Amelia next, and Royal Guard close up. Flamingo hit the post and rails, and lost his rider. Sylvia Maid ran off at the sod wall. Waiohika led throughout the second round, and stalling off a strong challenge by St. Amelia in the home run, won by a length. Time, 4min. 35see.
COUNTY HACK HANDICAP, 6 furlongs, 40 sovs. A. Mangnuson's cm Miss Sylvia, 4yrs, .7.9, Sylvia Park-*-Misfortune (C. Emerson) 1 W. D. Watson's b c First Consul, 4yrs, 9.3 (W. Price) 2 J. Ferguson's bf Embrocation, syrs, 6.7 (R. Young) 3 Pukewai, Longwood, Lord Kilcheran, and Odessa also ran. Pukewai and Miss Sylvia were first to break the line. The latter quickly ran to tile front, and without being caught won by two lengths from First Consul. Time, lmin. 18 1-5 sees.
TELEGRAPH HANDICAP, 60sovs., ' 5 furlongs. T. Ross'. blk g' Bally Shannon, 4yrs, 7.11, Merriwee—The Shannon (E. Lowe) 1 R. Cooper's br g Full Rate, aged, 10.3, (Sid Reid) 2 J. Orr's b g Palestine, syrs, 7.2, (C. Emerson) 3 AimweH, Afterthought, and Clem also ran. Palestine led to the straight, where Full Rate headed him. Kingi's c g Maori Rifle, 10.7, (F. Stephens) 3 Te Utuatu, Traylock, Egypt, The Flyer, and Cast-up also, ran. Traylock and The Flyer ran together to the straight, where Mediterranean took tip the running. Half way down he looked a winner, but Comethup came with a rush, and made a dead heat of it. W. Smart's b m Grand Jewel, 4yrs, (R. Hatch) 2 H. Catt's g f Field Fair, 4yrs, (T. L. Oatt) 3 Rumble, Merrie Fly, Fighting Maid, Merrie Gnat, and Cara also van. Merrie Time was first out, and led into the straight. Grand Jewel caught him at the distance, but he answered his rider's call, and in a good fiuish won by half a length. Time, lmin. 6sec.
