THE PROPOSED EXEMPTIONS.

The Minister of Defence, Sir Joseph Ward, mentioned in the House on Thursday night that it was proposed by regulation to exempt from military trainiag the following:—

a. Those' proved medically or phy-

sically unfit. b. Those who qualify under the Defence Department by examination as officers o" instructors to the senior or junior cadets while th£y so act. c. Members of the permanent staff or termanent force. d. Those who are the sole or main ■■support of their family, such as the only or the eldest son of a widow, or of a man who is in-

capable of earning a livelihood for those depending on him. e. Tlioee whc> have been convicted of

any disgraceful crime, f. Those fou'id by any court, of justice to be notoriously bad characters. The Governor may also exempt from training all persons within any particular area specified in a proclamation.
