PAHIATUA.
Several important remits which were, submitted for further consideration to the branches by the Dominion Conference, were discussed at a largely attended meeting y of the Paahiatua central branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union on Saturday last. With reference to the me dealing with the present system of valuing land for taxation purposes, the following motion, moved by Mr T. Quirk, and seconded by Captain Whyte, was carried:—"That this branch respectfully requests the executive to appoint an expert committee to go carefully into the -Wrolematter and collect evidence, afterwards submitting their proposals for the endowment of the varions branches." A remit from the Taranaki Provincial Executive, which met with the unanimous support and endorsement of the meeting, was one proposing that the whole of the Farmers' Union branches be tormed into a systematic land and estate agency, for the benefit of farmers who want lo buy, sell, or lease their property. The Pahaitua-Akitio Agricultural and Pastoral Association decided, at a meeting held on Saturday last, to add a class for pigs—Berkshire, Yorkshire, Tauiworth, ar.d Devon—a class for Holsteins, and to give a prize of £lO for the Champion jersey' Bull, any age. At the annual general meeting of the Maugatainoka Athletic Society, held on Saturday evening, Mr A. Rosa was elected president and Mr J. A. Walsh re-elected secretary.
