LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.
PROPOSED PURCHASE IN CHKISTCKURCH.
! The provisions of the Land Settlement Finance Act enabling private selectors to purchase laud for settlement will, says the Christchurch Pxess, probably be brought into force for the first time in Canterbury shortly. Five selectors negotiated for the purchase ot Mr Brookland's farm of 450 acres at Winchester, and approached the Land Purchase Board to advance the purchase money. The conditions under which the Department advance the money are that the purchase should ba approved, and that the land should be divided among the selectors. The selectors obtain the freehold by paying the amount advanced, and when they have repaid one-third they are «reed from all supervision by the Land Board, except bo far as the repayment of the balance ia con- ; cerned.
