Sir Maurice O'Rourke, fdrmerly Speaker' ofr'the House of Representatives. The Hon George Fowlds was entertained a .complimentary luncheon in Auckland yesterday, prior to his leaving for' Sydney, en route for- South Africa.. The Hon. Dr. Kndlay delivered- a stirring speech.

The Board of Governors of the Wanganui Girls' College last night appointed Mrs Redwood, of Feildirig, to the position of musical mistress to the College, out of nineteen applicants. , : Mr -M; Laracyj secretary of the N.Z. Shearers' Federation, left Dunedin on Saturday morning last, came right through .to Wellington, and reached Masterton at mid-day yesterday. He returns to Wellington to-day to represent the shearers at the sitting of the Arbitration Court.

Mrs John Hall, who was one of the pioneers of the Forty-Mile Bush, died at Levin on Saturday last, at the age of seventy-nine years. Her remains were taken through to Pahiatua yesterday for interment in the Cemetery. The deceased lady is' survived by her husband and a grown-up family. ,-■'".'
