OBITUARY.
MR WILLIAM FARKEiJ.

The deceased; gentleman was known<s aa v the '"Father of Carterton,'' being; one of its first settlers. He took a keen inv terest in the town in its early days, and took a prominent part in the founding of the Public Library. He was a native of England, and left the Old Country; vyith others, at tLe time of tho ChartiHt agitation. For over twenty-five years he acted as honorary librarian to the Carterton Library. He was an enthusiastic florist, and assisted in promoting flower shows in the district His family was very musical, and he, himself, in the early days, took a prominent part in the social gatherings of the district. It was a proud boast of the late Mr Parker that he had never drunk strong drink or smoked in his life. The deceased leaves a large family of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
