EDWARD GIBBON WAKEFIELD.
The movement which has been started in New Zealand with the object of erecting a memorial to the late Mr Edward Gibbon Wakefield, should meet with warm and spontaneous support. The name of no person associated with the strenuous, pioneering days of the Dominion, stands out more prominently than that of Edward Gibbon Wakefield. He was a man of striking personality, vigorous intellect, and stout heart. In his every undertaking he was inspired by high ideals and pure motives. As a coloniser, New Zealand has probably not seen his equal. The memory of one who was such a giant among his fellows should be ever revered', and his name should be honoured as that of a great pioneer.
