THE STUD.
CANADA.
Finland—Alumini.)
Mr C. O'Donnell of Upper Plain, has just introduced into this district a distinctly highly bred stallion, viz., Canada> by Finland—Alumini. This horse was bred by Hugo Frjedlander, Esq.\ Ashburton, In 1902, and k therefore only eight years old. He is a fine stamp of a thoroughbred, and shows plenty of quality as well as a level conformation and good bone, In his short racing career he won three races out or five starts, and then having received a shoulder injury was withdrawn from the turf. On breeding lines Canada will be hard to beat. His sire Finland is by Bill of Pertland, by St. Simon. Bill of Portland is'known to fame as the sire of such horses as Malster, Qtiarryman, and Merriwee. Canada's dam, Alumini, was by Patron, a Melbourne Cup I winner, by Grand Flaneur, also an exceptional performer. Finland has , made a name for himself in New Zealand as a sire of racehorses, and under this heading such horses as Bobrikoff, Nyland, Vasa ; Lapland, Chief Lochiel, White Cockade, Scotch Plaid, Penza, Outlander, and Tikitere have only to be mentioned to convince breeders of the successful strains which such winners have in their pedigrees. Under tfie Bruce Lowe system, Canada is a No. 11, and New Zealand turf winnings last season by performers sired by No. 11 stallions, one of which was Soult, amounted to the grand total of £19,431. Canada will be at the service of breeders this season at his owner's farm, Upper Plain, and the tabulated pedigree will be obtainable per medium of cards this week.
