AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

REVIVAL OF THE WAIRARAPA CLUB.

Amateur athletics ought to boom this year in Masterton if the enthuRjaßtic meeting helcTan the Dominion Hall, Maatertoi/, last evening, to consider the advisability of revivine the defunct Masterton Club, may tbe taken as a criterion. There was a very good attendance, and Mr J. Pryor waa unanimously voted to the chair. In explaining the objects of the meetine. the Chairman emphasiaed the need of a club being formed in Masterton, and pointed out the benefits youDg men could obtain from such an institution.

Mr J. Bradbury albo spoke, and gave an outilne of the affairs of the old Club, which showed that the assets remaining over were three silver caps, and the liabilities nil. In referring to the reinstatement of professional runners and athletts in, this district, Mr Bradbury explained: that the Wellington centre had notified him that they would do all in their power to help the Club, and stated that there would be no difficulty in the way of professionals being reinstated. Mr Bradbury then moved that "The Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club be resuscitated." This was aeconded by Mr W. C. Perry and carried. The election of officers was then held, and resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr J. M. Coradine; President, Mr J. Pryor; Vice-Presidents, Messrs W. B. Chennells,.. A. Henderson, F. Dupre, D. Caselberg and Dr. Prior; Secretary, pro tem, Mr J. Bradbury; Treasurer, Mr J. Bradbury; Committee, Messrs F. j Winter, B. Waddington, J. Coradine, junr., E. E. Fisher, R. McKenzie, M. Iggulden, A. Thompson and J. H. Kerry.. - : t It wa3 decided, on the motion of Mr Winter, to hold a social and dance in tbe Drill Hall on Sepember 22nd, to raise funds to give the Club a start.

On the motion of the-Chairman, it was decided to hold a sports meeting on the Park Oval on Boxing Day, which, judging from the good support promised from outside centres, should be very successful. The annual subscription to the Club was fixed at ss, and several present handed in their names as members.
