Mr D. Hebenton, of Masterton, was awarded third rrize in the impromptu speech competition at the Dunedin elecutionary contest.
Mr E. Gilbettson, who has been clerk to the Patangata County Council for the past quarter of a century, has'been voted a sum of £SO in recognition of his long and faithful services.
Mr W. L. Clark, manager of the Town Hall Pictures, left Masterton 'for Uhristchurch on Saturday. When in the south he will arrange for something unique in the way of cinematography for exhibition in Masterton. The friends of Mr A. Stempa, of the Upper Plain, who recently sustained a severe injury to the leg through a kick from a horse, will be pleased to hear that he is making satisfactory progress towards recovery.
The many friends of the Very Rev. Dean McEenna, who has been indisposed for the last few weeks, will be pleased to learn that there has been a steady improvement in his health during the last two days.
The Rev. Herbert Watson, Vicar of St. Matthew's, Masterton, has received intimation from His Lordship Bishop Wallis. of his transfer to Palmerston North. The transfer will take place in November next.
