MASTERTON RACING CLUB.

MEETING OP STEWARDS. A meeting of Stewards of the Masterton Racing Club was held on Saturday afternoon last, there being present Messrs C. F. Vallance (chairman), D. Caselberg, 11. Buick, J. lorns, D. Donald, W. Cooper, F. ' Dorset, D. McLachlan, W. Piatt, O. Cooper, and H. G. Yates. A letter was read from Mr W. H. E. Wanklyn, secretary of the Canterbury Metropolitan Club, forwarding a cheque for £l, fee collected on a certain horse which had started at the Christchurch meeting, and which was owing to the Masterton Club. The secretary of the N.'Z. Racing Conference intimated thai there was no objection to the Club racing on October 28th and 29th. On the motion of Mr D. McLach-

Lan, the resolution fixing the dates of the meeting for October 27th and 28th was rescinded, and the dates: fixed at the special meeting, viz., October 28th and 29th, were approved. ~~

Mr W. H. Wanklyn notified that certain bookmakers had "welshed" at the Canterbury meeting, and forwarded their names. An account for £4, the levy for the season 1910-11,. was also forwarded.—The amount of the levy was passed for payment.

Mr A. E. Whyte, secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, forwarded jockeys' licenses for Herbert Reardon and William McGrath, and gentleman rider's certificate for James Haxton. It was stated that McCann's application for a trainer's license had been held over pending further particulars.

The minutes of the meeting of delegates of Wellington Metropolitan and country racing clubs were read. These dealt chiefly with the issuing of complimentary tickets and passes.—The opinion was expressed by several stewards that the suggested issue of complimentary tickets was no improvement upon the old system.—On the motion of Mr 0. Cooper, it was decided to delete the proposal to issue complin mentary tickets to prominent members of colonial racing clubs. Proposals to give three extra tickets to Stewards,- and to issue tickets to the trainers and owners of all horses in training, were also deleted. On the motion of Mr D. Caselberg, it was decided that stewards of outside clubs receive complimentary tickets upon personal application! to the secretary.. It was decided, on the motion of Mr 0. Cooper, that in future no free luncheon tickets be issued at th.3 meetings of the Club. In reference to the tickets issued to trainers and jockeys, it was decided that admission tickets be given only to trainers of horses engaged in the meeting. A question of deleting hurdle races from the programmes of summer meetings was held over, as the matter at present did not concern the Masterton Club.

The District Traffic Manager of Railways forwarded a list of proposed train arrangements for the October meeting.—On the motion of the chairman, it was decided that no special trains be arranged for, but that the remaining proposals be approved.

The secretary of the Tarariaki Jockey Club forwarded a cheque for fees paid them by a defaulting owner. It was decided to procure a newstarting machine from Mr G. H. Saywell. The Licensing Committee reported that the following licenses had been recommended from 6th August to 3rd September:—Jockeys : T. Carroll, Herbert Reardou, Norman Campbell, and Alex. Watson. Gentlemen riders : James Haxton, R. Buick, C. F. Vallance,' L. B. Vallance, and A. Kennedy. Apprentices : L. Morris, P. Hubner and W. McGrath.

The question of catering for the cpming meeting was left in iflie hands of the Catering Committee, with power to act. On the motion of Mr R. Buick, it was decided that a ten shilling totalisator be used at the October meeting.

Tin Tv"--v.ror reported a debit bain- r-e at the bank of £387 Os 7d. It '' '- 1 decided that the Ground Committee meet at an early date to discuss the arrangements for the ten shilling totalisator and the duties of the. caretaker.

It was resolved that all future applications for jockeys' licenses be dealt with on the morning of the monthly meetings.
