LADIES' TOURNAMENT. WAIRARAPA DEFEAT HAWKE'S BAY.

By Telegraph—Special to Age. NELSON, Last Night.

The spe'l of fine weather for the Ladies' Championship Hockey Tournament remains unbroken, and on Saturday afternoon there was a record attendance. Tne matches resulted:—

Wanganui 3 beat Taranaki 2. Wellington A 2 beat. Westport 1 Otago 3 beat Greymouth 0. Nelson 1 beat Auckland 0.

Wairarapa 2 beat Hawke's Bay 1

The play in the Wairarapa v. Hawke's Bay match was exciting throughout. The former played up splendidly and showed fine combination. The champions (Hawke's Bay) opened with their usual dashing play, but Wairarapa maintained a stubborn defence until about three minutes before the end of the first spell, when Miss Crowley scored for Hawke's Bay. In the second half Wairarapa gradually worked play to Hawke's Bay territory, and from a shot by Miss Z. Humphries into the circle, the ball got into the Hawke's Baynet, amidst enthusiastic cheers' from the crowd, which was with Wairarapa. Hawke's Bay appeared to be "rattled," and the Lacks frequently mis hit, which was moat unusual. By good combination Wairarapa got into the Hawke's Bay circle, and from a scramble, Wairarapa shot their second goal. It was impossible to say who scored, but Miss A. O'Leary hit to her colleague Miss Easthope in the forward line, and the ball landed in th-? net. Hawke's Bay then made strenuous efforts to score, but the defence of Wairarapa was impregnable, and they frequently charged down into Hawke's Bay territory. When time was sounded the crowd rushed the field wildly cheering the winners, several of whom were carried shoulder high from the ground, Seldom, if ever, has there been Buch a popular demonstration in any branch of sport in Nelson. While every credit must be given Wairarapa for their win, there is no doubt Hawke's Bay did not display their usual form, Tha backs passed wildly and failed to hit with anything like accuracy. The Wairarapa girls played splendidly, and there was not a wea* spot in the team. The "star" performer was undoubtedly Miss Terry, while the O'Leary sisters were also 'prominent. The position of earns to date are-
