MAURICEVILLE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held on Saturday. Present—Crs F. W. H. Kutnraer (chairman), C. Foraberg, H. J. Dagg, 0. Isakson, J. E. Perry and C. Churchill Jackson.
The District Engineer returned copy of specification for metalling Mangaoronga Road, with amendment requiring formation to be widened to 16 feet.
Mr Hogg, M.P., forwarded correspondencerelative to grants for Mangaoronga Road and Bowen Roai; also copy of Noxious Weeds Act amendment Bill; advice re payment of subsidy was received from the Paymas-ter-General. The authority to expend grant of £250 for Mangaoronga Road was received from the Public Works Department An offer of second-hand road roller wan declined. Several applications for the position of roadman on the Main Road were received, but were not dealt with, as it was decided to extend the time for receiving applications until the 24th September; it was aldo resolved to advertise for a carter. The price to be paid for small birds' heads will in future be fourpence per dozen. It was resolved to get a quantity of metal broken in quarry on the Mangamahoe Road, to be in readiness for repairs on this road as soon as the weather permits.
The Chairman drew attention to the opportunity now given by the termination of ihe leases of small grazing runs, to bring the rateable value of these into line with the adjoining properties, and the injustice of the adjoining occupiers naving to make and maintain the roads giving access to these small runs should not b8 continued by letting or reletting under the same conditions, and all local bodies interested should bring pressure on the Government to get the law amended this session; and probably Land Boards may be induced to suspend the leasing or re-leasing of Buch lands until this is done.
