On the petition of Mr F. C. Turnor, of Eketahuna, Mr J. A. Walsh, of Pahiatua, has been adjudicated bankrupt. Speaking in Masterton on Saturday, Mr Taylor, M.K.C.V.S., said tnat three years ago contagious abortion had cost Taranaki dairy iarmers aione, a sum of £IO,OOO. According to Mr W. G. Taylor, M.R.C.V.S., who addressed a meeting of farmers in Masterton on Saturday, the cattle in the South Island are more healthy than those in the North. The reason he attributes to the fact that the herds in the South have been more systematically culled out.
A conference of district agriculturar societies in Auckland decided to recommend ~to the Government that a system of branding dairy heifers be established, "to prevent old cows being sold 1 as young and valuable animals."
Mr Taylor, Veterinary Surgeony of the Agricultural Department, told $ Masterton assemblage of farmers on ; Saturday night that the; milking machine was no doubt responsible for the conveyance of the germs :of disease from one cow to another. He urged: that where a sign ,of disease was discovered in a ~cow the beast should be isolated and hand-milking resorted to. The sterilisation of the rubber tabes of milking machines would, he said, be advisable.

Speaking at themeeting of farmers in Masterton on Saturday night, Mr G>. R. Sykes stated that in the Waithe. Veterinary Associations which had been.ipalled into existence had been allowed to die. Indeed, he did not know of a private veterinarian who was conducting a practice in any. part of New Zealand at the present time.. At the meeting of the members, of the Masterton Parliamentary Debate mg Society on Saturday evening, Mr J. C. Cooper congratulated members upon the distinct improvement in dobating pdwer which had been noticeable of late. A man . named George Allen was ' charged in the Magistrate's Court afc Masterton .on Saturday with the theft of a bag of oats, of: the value of 10s, the property of Robert Johnston, of Makora Rqad. Sergeant Miller stated that the oats, which had been missed from MrJohnstbn's farm, had been traced to a stable at Mrs Clan;cey's, where the accused was training a racehorse.
