CHAIRMANSHIP OF COMMITTEES.
The expected has happened. Mr I Colvin has had greatness thrust upon j him, and he has been exalted to a position to which he, in his most sanguine moments, never dreamt to aspire. He will earn the gratitude of his Party, not so much by the conspicuous ability he will display in the chair as by the facility he has offered the Government for escaping fi;om an unpleasant position. A split in the Party has been averted only by the self-abnegatien of Sir William Steward. Who knows but tliat he may yet be rewarded with a seat in the Cabinet ?,. ' ':.: *-.>";•''
