OUR "EFFICIENT" RAILWAY SERVICE.
If evidence were wanting of the "efficiency" of the rolling-stock on the New Zealand railways, of which the Minister made such a boast in his annual report, it is to be found in a letter which is published in another portion of this paper, and in a parcel of refuse, taken from a first-class carriage, which has been left at our offtee\ One need not labour flie question of the train; service when he has such practical demonstrations in his possession. The Minister should be prowd of railway rolling-stock which a reputable traveller, paying his first-class fare, describes as a "dogbox." If the railways of this coun-
try, particularly those which serve the country districts, are in an "efficient" condition, then all one can say is that the meaning of the term has been wrongly described in Webster.
