A FEATHERSTON CASE.

COBCROFT v. COBCROPT. APPLICATION FOR SUMMARY SEPARATION.

In the Magistrate's Court, Maateron, yesterday, before Mr Reid, S.M., Ethel May Cobcroft, of Featherston, applied, under "The Divorces and Matrimonial Causes Act,' lyoß, for a separation order against her husband, Leslie Thomas Cobcroft photographer of *eather3ton, on the ground of persistent cruelty and that he had wilfully neglected to provide reasonable maintenance for her and her children, Victor Forsyth Wilson Cobcroft, aged five, and Francis Mabel Mini Cobcroft, aged Gl years. She also applied for the custody of the children, and for a weekly allowance for herself and children.

Mr C. A. Pownall appeared for the complainant, and Mr G. H. Cullen, instructed by Mr J. W. Card, for the defendant. Mr Cullec, asked for a change of venue in the case to Featherston. He pointed out that the cause of action arose at Featherston. Defendant was a poor man, and could not afford to bring his witnesses to Masterton. Mr Pownall stated that the case possessed unsavoury surroundings, and it was not desirable that it should be heard in Feathreston. Under tho Act, it was competent [tor his Worship to hear the caae in any part of his district. The cost of bringing witnesses to Masterton was not a very serious item. His Worship thought it desirable thai the case should be heard in the township in which the cause of action arose. The case would be heard at Featherston at a date to be fixed,
