OPAKI RACE DATES.
To the Editor. Sir,—ln reply to the letter signed by "Trader" in your issue of yesteiday, with reference to the change from Thursday and Friday to Frriday and Saturday, I would point out to him that this Club, when applying for dates forspring[meeting, asked for 26th and 27th December. These dates were objected tofl by the Manawatu Club, and, unfortunately, the New Zealand Racing Conference upheld their objection, and referred us back to the 27th and 28th October, our last year's dates. The Carterton Show Committee, hearing that we had applied for Boxing Day, fixed their Show dates for 26th and 27th October. As the "people's" day at the Show was fixed for the Thursday, the Stewards of the Masterton Racing Club, considering that it would be disadvantageous to both functions, decided to defer the rac£ ing till the Friday and Saturday—especially considering the fact that the Show Committee in fixing their dates had not clashed with the dates applied for by this Racing Club. This, I think, "Trader" must realise"was the best way nut of the difficulty, no other dates being available until late in December. "Trader" is mistaken in thinking that the Club intend racing in future on Fridays and Saturdays; thh alteration only applying to the spring meeting of this year.—l am etc., A. HATHAWAY, [ Secretary Masterton Racing Club. August 19th, 1910.
