HOCKEY NOTES.
[By " Camen."
The Senior championship at Auckland has been won by the Auckland team. A record that would be hard to beat—thvi Invereargill Banks team, winners of the Saturday competition and tie for the Southland Championship have scored 85 goal 3 this [season, and had 5 goal 3 scored against them. Mr A. C. Pragnell has been chosen by St. Matthew's and Excelsior teams to referee in the final for the junior championship between, these two clubs, to be played to-day at Lansdowne. j Victoria College had no trouble in defeating Karori in the final for the Wellington senior championship. The scores were Victoria College 10, Karori 2. To-day will witness two very good exhibitions of hockey at Lansdowne, Knox and P. and T. senior teams playing the second Thompson Payne challenge shield match, and St. Matthew's and Excelsior juniors playing off, for the Booth Cup. The latter fixture is to junior players the most important of the season, and as both teams are out to win an exhibition equal to senior form is expected. The annual seven aside tournament under the auspices of the Wairarapa Ladies Hockey Association takes place Carterton this afternoon. Only five teams have entered, Kia Toa, Kiwi, Ramblers, and Hinemoa A and 8,, High School and Huia being unable to place team 3 in the field. It is to be regretted that a number of Wairarapa's bsst lady hockey players are unable to make the trip to Nelson for the tourney as it will be the last function of its kind to be held, the Cup being played for under rules similar to those governing the men's shield after this tourney.
The Nelson people have arranged an attractive round of amusements for the' visitors to the tourney. On Tuesday, August 30tb, the day on which the teams will arrive, a civic reception will be accorded the visitors. On Wednesday, 31st two of the visiting teams will be the guests of the Wainui Hockey Club at a ball; on Thursday, September Ist, all clubs will be invitfld to a skating party; on Saturday, September 2nd, and Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the following week the Nelson Hockey Association's bazaar will be held; on Thursday, September Bth, the Wakatu Club will hold a ball to which two of the visiting teams will be invited; on Friday Bepember 9tb, there will bs a conversazione, followed by a ball. On thid occasion all the visiting players will be the guests-of Mr S. Kirkpatrick, President of the iNekon Association. During the tournament the teams will be taken for a drive round the Waimeas.
