RACES AND SHOW.
TO AVOID CLASHING
MASTERTON RACE DATES TOg BE ALTERED.
At the meeting 1 of Stewards of. the Masterton Racing Club jesterdjy, the question of the proposed dates for the autumn meeting of the Club came up fir discussion. Mr U McLachlan said the matter hid been mentioned at the meeting of the Program me Committee on Saturday last, and the general opinion was that the dates should be altcKd from Thursday and Friday, October 27th and 28th,to Friday and Saturday. Mr A. G. Pilmer, thought they should, if possible, avoid conflicting with'the Carterton Show. Some of t ie members .of the A. and P. Society ware also horse-owners, and were, -anxious that the dates be altered. Mr D. Castlberg, whilst agreeing that it was a pity to clash with the Carterton Show, pointed out that horse owners would not care to keep thsir horses in Masterton over Sunday. More than that, a good many members of the Club in Masterton would be unable to attend the second day of the rac<.s if they were held on Saturday.
Messrs Yates and Macara did not think the horse-owner 3 would be affected seriously by having to remain in Masterton over Sunday. Mr Pownall said he would have voted for the retention of the old dates under the original circumstances of Carterton having selected the race day for their Show. Seeing, however, that the Racing Club had applied for other dates, and that the days of the Show had been fixed, the position was altered. He moved that it be a recommendation to the Stewards at their ordinary meeting that date of the races be altered to Friday and Saturday, October 28th and 29th. The motion was carried on ihe voices.
