| How hard it often is to earn j and maintain a good reputation, and ( how easy it is to lose one. As ! with a man's reputation, so it is 4 with other tilings in this life. Some ' things obtain a reputation which stays with them. They are found- ', ed on intrinsic value. They faee \ the public backed up by honesty, ; and work their way quietly and thoroughly. Masterton people want no better proof of merit than is contained in the following experience: Mr T. I used a great many remedies L during this period to try and get \ rid of the ailment,- but the first remedy to do me any good was . Doan's Bachache Kidney Pills, which I got at Eton's Pharmacy. ■I A Magisterial decision of interest to farmers in the Masterton district, as was given at Feilding last week by Mr A. D. -Thomson, S. M. A man ;named Neame sued another named 'Remnant for £9 15s for alleged breach of warranty in connection with a cow purchased at auction./ The plaintiff alleged/ that the auc-~ tioneer, in answer to a question, had Said the cow was perfectly sound, whereas, after a lapse/ of five days, when she /calved* it was discovered that her teats had been operated Upon, presumably to make her easier to milk, with the result that the udder would not retain the milk. For the defence, it was stated that the cow had been purchased by Remnant as sound, and sold as such. It was contended that the cow was sold under the. ordinary conditions of sale, which protected the vendor. A guarantee was no use, except in writing, i unless it could be proved that knowledge of unsoundness was general. The Magistrate said he believed that Remnant had every confidence the cow was .sound at the time of sale, and therefore nonsuited the plaintiff I with costs.
