THOSK CRITICS. To the Editor. Sir,-—May I be allowed space to reply to your two corre'spoudente, "Ralph V. King'" and "Interested," whose letters appear in your issue of this morning. First, I will deal with "Interested." He says lam trying to fix the authorship of his letter on a certain ladies' coach, and have had two digs at it. As I said about "Interested's" attempt at pickiDg a team he is guessing again, and he "misses the 'bus" badly. I know he thinks 1 was /referring either to Ralph V. King or another well-known Kia Toa supporter; but that is where he is wrong again. Neither of them entered my head when I wrote; it was too easy, otherwise, to pick the autbcrship. "Interested" infers that 1 do not know what the teams are capable of doing, as I have seen very few matches outside of Masterton. 'well, really, that is news. Is "Interested" my keeper, and dce3 be know exactly wfcere I am, and what lam doing? I may say that I have seen every team play at least twice, and the leading teams, guch as Kia Toa and Ramblers, fbree or four times during the seison. His statement that a referee is not able to study the merits of a

team while refereeing is twaddle. I

need go no further than say tnat Mr

Walton is a Wellington referee and sole selector of the Wellington representative team which holds tnc New Zealand Championship Shield, i ask "Interested" once again to play the game and sign his name, as it would make interesting reading. With regard to "Ralph V. King," he says the Selection Committee nave shown their utter incapacity to srlect a team, and want of knowledge of what a player can do. Well, Mr Ralph V. King, you may be something in the limited hockey circle in the small village of Carterton, but in Mastertou you "don't count for nothing"—in fact, 90 per cent, of the followers of the game in Masterton never heard of you. May 1 ask what qualification "Ralph V. King" has to set • himself up as our judge? He

plays with the Carterton Men'd Club, and therefore is not in a position to pass an opinion about the merits or demerits of the lady players. Therefore bis opinion, like the bos'un of the Bellerophon, can be thrown overboard. —I am, etc., BEN IVESON.
