GRAND NATIONAL MEETING. PASANO WINS G. N. HURDLES. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, August 11. The C J C. Grand National meeting was continued tc-day at Riccarton in beautiful weather, the course beingjn capital order. The attendance, though not so large as on the opening day, was good, and speculation was brisk, the tote investments amounting to 519,721. as against £19,848 last year. Nineteen book-* makers were licensed inside and thirty one outside. The result of the Grand National Hurdles found one or two of them unable to meet their obligations. There were several falls, but the worst was that sustained by C. O'Neill, who had his head and shoulder badly bagged when Waitapu fell in the hurdles race. H. Coker, the rider of Honest Tom, was disqualified for the rest of the meeting for crossing Lovell in the straight at the finish of the Beaufort Steeplechase, jfrophet ran I off at the first fence in the Grand National Hurdles, but his rider, C. Cress, continued, in the race, and for this was traspended for the remainder of the fixture". Results:— Hunt Club Handicap, about 3 mile?. —Oakley. 10.10, 1; Laghmor, 11.9, 2; gEven, 10 7, 3. Paisano, who was always with the leading division, took charge at the six lurlong post, and won by a length from Paritutu. Time, 3min 46 3-ssec.
