The Ladies' Association's first tnai will be nlayed at Greytown today The following is taker, from the Sydney Arrow—"Things are moving in the hockey world, and I see we are to send an Australian team to New Zealand next year, which is

great business. The veteran McJNaughtoH, is to lead the Australian team which is a surprise to all, as it was thought he had retired from the traine. Judging from the accounts of last Saturday's match, a really good side could be got together to visit the iand of the fern leaf." It is further mentioned that Victoria will supply most of the, backs, and New South Wales the forwards.

Rangitara A team have won the Auckland ladies' championship. They had an unbeaten record of nine matches, scoring 58 goals, whilst but two were scored agaiDst them. There were only five clubs in the competition, and the lowest in the contest lost all their games, never scored a goal, and had 52 goals registered against them. Karori and Victoria College play off on Saturday for the Wellington

senior premiership. Evidence of the progress hockey has made in Wairarapa is furnished by the entries ior the five-aside tournament to be held at Lansdowne this afternoon. Last yeai four teams entered for the senior competitions, while this year there are seven teams competing. The juniors this year have entered six teams, as against seven last year, but this year a third grade contest has been inaugurated with five teams. The Association will present badges to the winners of the senior and third grade competitions, while the Bannin Banner, at present held by the defunct W,F.C.A. team, is held by a year by the winner of the junior competition.

St. Matthew's and Masterton meet at Lansdowne on Saturday in the third round of the Saturday competitions, when a first-class game should be witnessed.

The present season will most likely end to-day week, when the second Thompson-Payne challenge match will be played between Post and Telegraph, the holders, and Knox. The final for the junior competition between Excelsior and at. Matthew's will also be played. The new Methodist minister, Rev. Olds, is reported to be a player of no mean order, he being a member of the Auckland University team for several seasons past. The remaining matches to be played for the Hockey Shield by Wellington are—August 80th, v. Wanganui; September 3rd/ v. Auckland. Wanganui defeating Wellington, Auckland will play them instead of Wellington on September 3rd.
