It is.estimated thit the award of Mr Justice Higgine, President of the F. : deraLArbitration Court, will result in an increase of at least £70,000 yearly in the wages of those employed in the Australian boot trade. Fully 500 adult woikmen will benefit, tb,e added wage averaging about 6s a head weekly. In addition, increased expenditure has been necessitated in regard to apprentices, ; The present award will be binding only on those employers who were respondents in the court proceedings, but the Boot Employees' Federation intends to apply for a common rule to extend the award.
