I The County En<ind r reported i 1 follows to the Maaterton Count 1 Council yesteriay 1 Opaki Hiding.— Robert street- ! i The Council'j to contribute hal I j the cost II path on the frontage of Messr i j Cruickshank and Cress, has bed j agreed to and a contract let for thi j work which is now in progress. Thi | Chairman authorised tha improve mant of the sida width, to facilitate the drainage of storm watei o i the northern side of the above I ri,aJ. This is being undertaken. Adamsvilb. A sixty-foot culvert has been placed at the junction of Albert street, diverting the from overflowii.g on tu the properties of Messrs Cooper and others in the locality. Black Creek road.—A contract for the supply of 100 cubic yards of metal, let since last meeting, will be started forthwith, weather perI mitting. JRuamahanga Valley road, Government Grant—The timber has been ordered for the construction of a 50 feet by 3 feet by 2 feet culvert, the building of which will be proceeded with upon delivery of timber.
Te Whiti Riding. Waingawa bridge—Timber for the re-decking of above structure is on the ground and th work will be commenced immediately. Wainuioru Riding.— BlairlogieEast Coast road.—Owing to heavy slips, it has been necessary, during last month, to have four or five men at work to keep this section of the road open; lengths of treacherous ground have been moving on to the roadway. Masterton Waimata road. — I have completed the field work in connection with the proposed deviation at the Devil's Elbow, and will submit estimates to the next meeting of the Coucil. Upper Taueru Riding.— Wainui* omata road. —I have reproduced the old survey defining the road, giving access to Mr Harris 3 property, and have given him an approximate estimate of the cost of constructing the i unformed parts. Considerable slips i have occurred on the bye roads of this riding during last month. The roadman reports them now open for light vehicular traffic. Authority has been received for ex-
pending £l5O, £ for £, on the Mangarai road. This will admit of the formation work being proceeded with. Plans are in readiness for calling tenders for a mile jof formation. The plans for (lie Mangarai bridge have been returned, approved with some minor alterations, which will not, however, alter the dimensions of the timber ordered for the structure, and a contract may be let for the erection when authority for the £250 grant has been received. Alfredton Kidiner. —Waihoki road —A slip of considarable area is enroaching on the waterway of the creek, diverting the stream to undermining the solid permanent roadway. 1 think thac it would be judicious to expend a sum of about £lO, grading the crsek bed from the waterfall, with a view of its carrying away, to some extent, the encroaching slip. At the request of Mr Murray, I have taken out the approximate cost of diverting a bend in the main creek, near bis northern boundary, which has been undermining the road for some years back. The creek at this point has a considerable grade. The diversion entails cutting through a neck of over half a chain; approximate cost, £3O The report was adppteo".
